How to Reveal Elements+

As you probably know, Adobe Photoshop Elements has not inherited all of the essential features of its bigger brother. Some functions have been removed, while the others just stay hidden.

"Elements+" is a bundle of Photoshop actions allowing you to call the undocumented commands from Photoshop Elements. The added functions appear in your Photoshop Elements immediately after successful setup.

To access the new features:

  1. Go to the "Effects" palette (Window > Effects)
  2. Display "Photo Effects" tab (fig. 1)
  3. From the drop menu, choose one of the Elements+ (numbered) categories (fig. 2).

In case the new functions don't appear in the Effects palette:

  1. Close Photoshop Elements.
  2. Uninstall Elements+.
  3. Locate on your computer the Photoshop Elements application data folder*.
  4. Run the "Elements+" setup and specify the correct path to the Photoshop Elements program folder.
  5. Restart Photoshop Elements (after deleting the program cache it may take several minutes).

*On Windows XP, the default path looks like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0

On Windows Vista:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0

Tip. To find this folder, you may need to show hidden and system files.

Please note, that the installer replaces existing "MediaDatabase.db3" with its prerecorded version. (The original cache goes to "MediaDatabase Backup" subdirectory.)

In most cases, this feature simplifies setup process. However, it may hide previously installed 3rd party actions. To get them back:

  1. In the Photoshop Elements application data folder, go to "Locale\en_US" directory and delete "MediaDatabase.db3" (Elements' cache file).
  2. Restart Photoshop Elements.
